Acfred (Aquitaine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Acfred († 927 ) was a short time Count of Auvergne and Duke of Aquitaine . He was a son of Count Acfred I of Carcassonne and his wife Adeline, the sister of Duke Wilhelm I of Aquitaine . So he belonged to the Bellonids .

During the reign of his brother, Duke Wilhelm II , Acfred was Count in the Velay , probably also in Gévaudan and lay abbot of St. Julien in Brioude . During the conflict between his brother and King Rudolf , Acfred temporarily occupied Nevers , but was expelled there by Count Heribert II of Vermandois .

He succeeded his brother, who died in 926, as Duke of Aquitaine, but died the following year. Nothing is known about any marriage or descendants of Acfred. He bequeathed the extensive property of his family to Count Ebalus Mancer of Poitou in a will .
