Achille Baquet

Achille Joseph Baquet (born November 15, 1885 - † November 20, 1956 ) was an American jazz musician ( clarinet , saxophone ) of New Orleans jazz .

Achille Baquet grew up in a musical family; his father Theogene Baquet , ran the Excelsior Brass Band and his brothers Harold and George were both musicians; the most famous of them was George. Achille was African American, but had fair skin, which enabled him to overcome the existing racial barriers. He learned clarinet from Luis Tio and then played with the Original New Orleans Jazz Band , Papa Jack Laine's Reliance Brass Band and the Happy Schilling Dance Orchestra . Baquet was the composer of the track "Why Cry Blues", which he wrote with Jimmy Durante . He is also said to have written "Livery Stable Blues" with Yellow Nunez.
