Achim Block

Achim Block (born February 28, 1932 in Hanover ; † July 27, 2019 in Göttingen ) was a German politician (CDU) and classical philologist .

Block graduated from the Ratsgymnasium in Hanover in 1951 and then studied German, Greek and Latin at the universities of Tübingen and Göttingen. After the first state examination in 1956 and the second in 1958, Block worked as a teacher at the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Gymnasium ( Kaiser-Wilhelm- und Ratsgymnasium Hannover ) in Hanover. From 1969 to 1977 he was then senior director of the Max Planck Gymnasium in Göttingen. From 1977 until his election to the state parliament in 1994, he was President of the Lower Saxony State Examination Office for teaching posts. At the same time he was in the City Council of Göttingen from 1976 to 1991, where he was CDU parliamentary group chairman from 1981 to 1991. For the CDU, he moved into the state parliament of Lower Saxony in 1994 via the state list, to which he was a member until 1998.

During his studies, Achim Block became a member of the Student Music Circle (today the Blue Singers Student Music Association in Göttingen ). a. wrote a comedic play under the pseudonym Micha K. Colb .
