Achyuta Pisharati
Achyuta Pisharati (* around 1550 in Vaishali, Tirala , Kerala ; † July 7, 1621 ) was an Indian Sanskrit scholar, astronomer, astrologer and mathematician of the Kerala school founded by Madhava .
He was one of the Pisharati (Pisarati) who traditionally looked after temple affairs and was a disciple of Jyesthadeva . A Sanskrit grammar (Pravesaka) and several astronomical texts are known from him, including about eclipses. He wrote a commentary in Malayalam on a work (Venvaroha) by Madhava.
The king of Prakasa, Ravivarman (1595-1607), was its patron.
He is best known for the role he plays in the Sanskrit poem Naryayaniyam (or Narayaneeyam, completed around 1586) by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri (1559-1645) (his student), a short form of the Bhagavatapurana . According to the legend portrayed there, Narayana was a student of Pisharati, who took on his paralysis through prayer out of adoration for his master. In order to free himself from it, the poet Thunchaththu Ezhuthachan advised him to write a poem himself.
