Aci Trezza , also Acitrezza, is a fraction of the municipality of Aci Castello in the metropolitan city of Catania in the Italian region of Sicily . The municipality is located on the east coast of Sicily on the Ionian Sea . The Cyclops Islands lie off the coast .

history

Aci Trezza was originally a small fishing village which, due to the beautiful beach, developed into a destination for the residents of Catania .

In 1948, the film La terra trema with local actors was shot in Aci Trezza, directed by Luchino Visconti . The film is based on Giovanni Verga's novel Malavoglia , which describes the hard life of fishermen. Some of Verga's stories in the Cavalleria rusticana (Sicilian peasant stories ) also relate to Aci Trezza. They served as the basis for the opera of the same name Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni .

Worth seeing

There is a small museum in the Casa del Nespolo . From there, “literary tours” are organized to the locations of the novel and the film.
