Aclys is one of the oldest German metalcore bands and comes from Solingen .

history

Aclys was founded in October 1996 and recorded four songs for their self-titled debut in January 1997. The debut EP was released on the Bremen label Per Koro, which is why the band's style was often referred to as Bremer Schule-Hard-Core in the early days.

After Aclys had played numerous shows, Aclys began the studio session for their first full-length album Helduntergang , which was also released in 1998 on Per Koro. In the following years, the four musicians from Aclys played a large number of concerts that made them a fixture on the German hardcore scene.

After the recordings of their second album Liedergeburt , which was released in 2000 on the Voice of Life Records label, Aclys embarked on a European tour and consolidated their position in the European hard core scene. Casting problems after the departure of bassist Andreas (now Thembones ) delayed work on the next album until mid-2002.

The third studio album Artifact was released in 2004 on the Austrian label Burning Season Records. Not least because of the great success of the band Caliban , in which Aclys guitarist Denis is active, Aclys received increased attention with their third album.

style

music

The music of Aclys combines elements of classic heavy metal , extreme death metal and modern metalcore . The change between melancholic, ballad-like melodies and hard parts with abstract, machine-played rhythms is particularly significant. A special trademark of the music are very high played, singing guitar melodies, which otherwise only have their equivalent in Black Metal . The very technical drumming, which often relies on rhythms and beat changes that are atypical for metalcore, is characteristic of the Aclys style. The vocal spectrum ranges from throaty black metal vocals to deep death metal growls.

Texts

Aclys is one of the few German metalcore bands to use the German language. One can very often find allusions from the poetry of Expressionism in the texts . Thematically, the texts deal with the relationship of the individual to the environment or to other individuals, with the focus on the subject of transience (including the transience of suffering). Reduced to the individual, the texts hold up a mirror to society: global problems are attributed to the individual's being trapped in their own feelings and values.
