Acrotrichis grandicollis is a beetle from the family of dwarf beetles (Ptiliidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.85 to 1 millimeters. Her body is colored black on top and has a faint metallic sheen. The shiny pronotum is only imperceptibly weaker punctiform than the wing . The body has three probe bristles on the sides. One is on the side edge of the pronotum, two on the sides of the wings, but in older animals they have mostly fallen off. The antennae are dark brown, the first two links are red. The legs are colored reddish yellow.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in the Palearctic . It is widespread and not uncommon in Central Europe. They can also be found in high altitudes. The animals live mainly under faeces and carrion as well as under rotting plant material. They can also be found under stones.
