The fruit cups (cupulae) are covered with branched and simple spines . The spines are hairy and balding. Each fruit cup contains a single nut . The nut is regular and ovoid.

Flowering time is from February to November, mostly from June to July. The fruit ripens from March to December, mostly from August to November.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand , China , India , Myanmar and Vietnam . It grows in deeper evergreen mountain forests, in oak - pine forests, in dry evergreen forests. They occur from 350 to 1300 m above sea level, mostly between 500 and 900 m.
