ActewAGL is privately held in Australia . It is a joint venture as part of a public-private partnership , which divided equally owned by the Australian Gas Light Company and the State holding company ACTEW Corporation is.

Founded in October 2000 and based in the capital Canberra , the company sells utilities such as water, natural gas and electricity in the Australian Capital Territory and the region around Shoalhaven and Queanbeyan . ActewAGL owns the electricity and gas infrastructure and operates the water and wastewater utilities, wholly owned by ACTEW Corporation.

With 1092 employees in 2004 a turnover of 534 million AUD was achieved.

ActewAGL has several subsidiaries, including:

  • Ecowise Environmental: Australia's largest provider of environmental analysis, monitoring and advisory services
  • Cantec: telecommunications consulting
  • TransACT: Operator of the local fiber optic cable network and provider of landline and mobile telephony, pay TV and broadband Internet
  • Grapevine: Internet service provider
