Actinotaenium is a genus of algae from the group of ornamental algae (Desmidiales). The genus includes about 68 species.
description
In representatives of this genus, the dimensions of the cells range between 15 µm and 250 µm, depending on the species. The cells are always longer than wide, spindle-shaped to cylindrical. The cross-section is always circular and the cell ends are usually broadly rounded. The cell wall usually has clear pores, but is without warts or granules. The chromatophores usually have longitudinal ridges, more rarely they are star-shaped with one large or several smaller pyrenoids each .
distribution
Actinotaenia are mainly found in acidic to moderately acidic waters, in raised bog pools they are often numerous. It is not uncommon to find them between damp mosses.
Actinotaenia are represented in Central Europe with around 20 species.
