Adalhard (Carolingian)

Adalhard (* probably 752; † January 2, 826 ) was a son of the Carolingian Bernhard, the illegitimate son of Karl Martell , and a Franconian.

He became a monk in 772, was then from 781 to 814 and from 821 abbot of Corbie , from 822 also abbot of Corvey . In the intervening years he was a monk in Noirmoutier .

A document signed by Adalhard is the oldest known document that mentions the use of hops in brewing beer.
