Adam, 2nd Earl of Angus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adam, 2nd Earl of Angus (* before 1150 , † before 1198 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was Gillebride, 1st Earl of Angus , his mother's name is unknown. As the eldest son from his first marriage, he took over his father's inheritance as Earl of Angus after his father's death around 1187 .

Only a few details are known about his life: He is first mentioned in 1164, when he and his father testified to the document for Malcolm IV , with which he raised the monastery of Scone to an abbey and founded the abbey church; In 1178 he and his younger brother William appeared as witnesses to the transfer of the "Church of Calcou" to the monastery of Aberbrothoc. As Earl of Angus he can only be found once: in 1187 he appeared by name for Wilhelm “the Lion” , with whom he gave the “Church of Foethmures” to the monastery of Aberbrothoc.

It is not known whether Adam was married. He remained without a legitimate heir, so after his death the eldest brother Gille Críst still alive at the time took over the common inheritance and the title of their father.
