Adam Qadmon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adam Kadmon , Hebrew Adam Qadmon (אדם קדמון = original man), is understood as the archetype of man according to the Kabbalah and Haggada . His image is the earthly man. But earthly man lost the three wisdoms that place Adam Kadmon on the side of God, namely wisdom , glory and immortality .

In the history of mysticism , the character Adam Kadmon often led to considerations of a scheme about the state of man, how he was at the beginning and how he should be at the end.

“His head is a triad of wisdom and intelligence , surmounted by the crown , which symbolizes rule . The breast, the beauty , is connected with the right arm, mercy and the left arm, justice . In a third triad, the genitals, which are called the foundation , dominate the right leg, the firmness and the left leg, the splendor , which in turn form a triad with the feet, which mean kingdom . Adam Kadmon and Creation

According to the Kabbalist Isaak Luria, creation begins in the first phase through the Tzimtzum , a self-limitation of the divine infinite being En Sof . This self-limitation leads to a primordial space in which Adam Kadmon, determined by the structure of the Sefirot , is formed as the primordial figure of all being. This Adam Kadmon is at the same time the Creator God for the following creation, since the divine power in the form of light breaks through his body orifices and emanates into the world .

The second phase of creation is initiated by the imperfection of the vessels that were supposed to receive this divine light, the Qlīpōt . The vessels created even by a low mix of light break under the impact of Adam Kadmon's light. This is the Schvirat ha-Kelim , the “rupture of the vessels”. The debris of this Qlīpōt mix in turn with sparks of divine light, and thereby receive a demonic life of their own.

To remedy this cosmic disaster, a special light breaks from Adam Kadmon's forehead. This light heralds the third phase of creation, the Tiqqun , the restitution. We are currently in this phase of restoration and cleaning. But not only the divine self, even every creature can participate in the Tiqqun, according to Luria by the excess of directing forces (those of Səfīrat Gəvūrā match) that the Švīrā caused, an appropriate level of forces of love and grace ( Səfīrat Ḥesed ) opposed.

The creation according to Isaac Luria is also seen as a self-purification of God from immanent evil. So everything that exists is oriented towards the one goal, to fight this evil by means of Tiqqun and ultimately to create a pure being.
