Adam von Schwalbach (* 1519; † July 4, 1573 ) was Grand Prior of Germany of the Order of St. John and Prince of Heitersheim from 1567 to 1573 .

Life and career

Adam von Schwalbach was born in Humbracht in 1519 and comes from the Rhineland-Hessian noble family of the von Schwalbach . The ancestral home of the family is in Schwalbach , today a district of the community Schöffengrund south of Wetzlar. On January 15, 1540 he was accepted into the Order of St. John. Presumably he then did the service required by the statutes in Malta . The Kommende Tobel was given in 1543 and the Kommende Feldkirch in 1546. In 1547 the Kommende Würzburg was added, and in 1556 the Kommende Frankfurt am Main , based in Rüdigheim . Since 1547 he was the receptor for Upper Germany, ie responsible for the transfer of the response money of the Upper German comers. In April 1553 he became deputy of the Großbailli Georg Bombast von Hohenheim. After his death he was appointed Großbailli himself on April 5, 1554. On March 12, 1567 he was finally elected Grand Prior of Germany. He also became commander of the Kommende Bubikon , where he had the last major extensions to the knight's house made in the Renaissance style. He was also the supreme commander of the German bastions on Malta. On July 4, 1573 he died in Heitersheim.
