Georg bombast from Hohenheim

Georg Bombast von Hohenheim (around 1500; † 10 December 1566 ) was Grand Bailli of the Order of St. John from 1546 to 1554 and Grand Prior of the Order of St. John and Prince of Heitersheim from 1554 to 1566 .

Life

Georg comes from the Swabian lower nobility family of the Bombast von Hohenheim . He was born as the son of Friedrich Bombast von Hohenheim and Anna Maria Schillingin von Canstatt († 1546), a sister of the Grand Prior of the German Johanniter, Georg Schilling von Cannstatt . Anna Bombastin von Hohenheim, the third wife of Margrave Ernst von Baden-Durlach , was a sister of Georg.

Georg was raised at the court of Emperor Maximilian . In 1545 he was commander in Saint-Jean-de-Bassel , and in 1549 he is mentioned as commander of Dorlisheim . In 1552 he was Grand Balli of the Order in Malta and directed the construction of Fort St Elmo , of which he became the first governor. In 1554 he succeeded his uncle, Georg Schilling von Cannstatt , as Grand Prior of the German Johanniter.
