Adams Iceland is an island of about Zealand belonging Auckland Islands .

The southern end of the archipelago is up to 26 km wide. Here a narrow canal, Carnley Harbor (also Adams Straits on some maps ) separates the main island of Auckland Island from the almost triangular island of Adams Island .

The area of ​​the island is 61.3 km², mainly mountains, which with Mount Dick reaches a height of 705 m, according to other information only 668  m above sea level.

The canal is the remnant of an extinct volcano; Adams Island and the southern part of the main island are part of the former crater rim .

The island is one of the last retreats for the endemic Auckland rail ( Lewinia muelleri ), which was thought to be extinct and was only rediscovered in 1966 .
