Adavathur ( Tamil : அடவாத்தூர் Aṭavāttūr [ ˈaɖəʋaːt̪ːuːr ]) is a village in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It is located around ten kilometers west of the city of Tiruchirappalli in central Tamil Nadu. Administratively, Adavathur belongs to the Taluk Srirangam of the Tiruchirappalli district . The Indian census records two separate villages, Adavathur-West and Adavathur-East. In 2011 the population of Adavathur-West was 9,561 and that of Adavathur-East was 6,352.

Adavathur is the birthplace of the eminent scholar T. Meenakshisundaram Pillai (1815–1876). However, Meenakshisundaram Pillai spent most of his childhood in the neighboring village of Somarasampettai .
