Addis Alem

Addis Alem (also known as Ejerie ) is a city in Ethiopia . It is located in the Mirab Shewa Zone in Oromiyaa , west of Addis Ababa .

The Central Statistics Agency , according to Addis Alem had 2005 13.423 inhabitants, including 6,420 men and 7,003 women a year. The 1994 census put the population at 7,500.

Addis Alem was founded as the new capital by Menelik II in the 19th century . Ultimately, however, he left the capital in Addis Ababa. The first paved road in Ethiopia was laid in 1903 between Addis Alem and the capital. A year later, most of it could be used.

The city is known for the wall paintings in its Debre Tsion Mariam Church. There is also a museum here .
