Adel Ben-Bechir Chedli ( Arabic عادل بن بشير الشاذلي, DMG ʿĀdil b. Bašīr aš-Šāḏilī ; Born September 16, 1976 in La Ricamarie , France ) is a Tunisian football player .
Adel Chedli was born and raised in France and has both French and Tunisian citizenship. His first club was the FCO Montrabert , at AS Saint-Étienne he rose to professional football. In 1997 he moved to FC Sochaux , where he played in the first division for several years and became a Tunisian national player. Most recently he played for FC Istres before moving to the Bundesliga for free after relegation to the first division and a total of 88 games in the top French league. Together with his national team colleague Jawhar Mnari , he came to 1. FC Nürnberg for the 2005/06 season , where he signed a two-year contract. After having problems with integration in the first year, he hardly made any Bundesliga appearances under two coaches and instead often had to play in the second team. Due to the lack of prospects, the contract was terminated after only one year.
In his youth, Chedli played for the French junior national team, but then decided to play for Tunisia in the future, which led to an international forced break after his first assignment for Tunisia in 1996. Chedli has been a permanent member of the Tunisian senior national team since 2003, and in 2004 he won the Africa championship with the team . In his 56 appearances (including the Africa Cup in 2006 ) he scored three goals for his country.
For the Confederations Cup 2005 he was in the Tunisian squad. He took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany in all three games of the Tunisian A-selection under coach Roger Lemerre . Furthermore, Adel Chedli won the CHAN with the Tunisian national team in 2011 (an African championship only for players who are under contract in the African leagues). He is the only player in the world and in Africa who won both the CAN and the CHAN.
At the beginning of the 2006/2007 season, Chedli moved to the Swiss first division club FC Sion .
After his substitution during the break in the 11th round of the Axpo Super League 2007/2008 season, Chedli declared that he would never play for FC Sion again. Thereupon he was dismissed by the club president Christian Constantin .
In 2013 he ended his career with Raja Casablanca .
