history

Well house of the Primusquelle with publicly accessible tapping point

Adelholzen is one of the oldest spas in Bavaria. According to legend, the source is said to have been discovered by a Roman legionnaire named Primus. Records by the doctor Bopp from 1629 say that there was already a lively bathing activity in Adelholzen “four hundred years ago”. In the same year Adelholzen was raised to a noble court mark , which also had lower jurisdiction. In 1695 the architect and builder Caspar von Zuccalli bought Bad and Hofmark. In 1840 the castle and the adjacent buildings were destroyed by fire. Georg Mayr from Brunnthal near Munich bought Grund und Heilquelle and started a new bathing establishment in 1843. In 1895 the Adelholzener Primusquelle was put on the market.

The Munich motherhouse of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy acquired Bad Adelholzen in 1907 and founded the Bad Adelholzen nursing home . Alfons Haslberger (March 29, 1885 - April 9, 1969) from Gars, who worked as a curator in Bad Adelholzen for over 50 years, has made a great contribution to promoting and selling Adelholzen healing water. Alfons Haslberger came to Adelholzen as a chaplain in 1912; at that time there were about 100 spa guests in the house. The spring and healing water was initially made available by the sisters using the simplest means, and in 1919 the first electrical filling plant was built. In 1923 the papal nuncio Pacelli, who later became Pope Pius XII, stayed. , to the cure in Adelholzen. During the world wars, Adelholzen was converted into a hospital. In 1939 the Primusquelle became a "state-approved medicinal spring", and in 1946 it was also officially recognized as a "bath". In 1994 the Adelholzener Primusquelle became the Adelholzener Alpenquellen GmbH . Today the company has 600 employees and is still owned by the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy . The company's proceeds go to social projects.
