Al-ʿArʿūr and the Syrian conflict

Since the beginning of the Syrian protests in 2011, al-ʿArʿūr has appeared several times on the Saudi satellite channel al-Safa. He stands out for his critical comments against non-Sunni people. Although he has officially spoken out in favor of a peaceful, non- armed revolution several times, in June 2011 he threatened Alawis loyal to the regime with murder. In Syrian circles he is sometimes seen as a well-known symbol of the opposition.
