Life

Hugo Landsberger was a son of the rabbi Julius Landsberger . Hugo Landsberger attended the Joachimsthaler Gymnasium in Berlin . After passing the school leaving examination , he began a commercial apprenticeship , which he broke off; instead, studied it literature and history at the universities in Leipzig and Berlin . He was in contact with the labor movement ; the fact that he had given lectures to workers' associations led to his relegation from Berlin University . Landsberger shifted to the writing of literary works, which he published under the pseudonym "Hans Land" and which appeared partly as preprints in social democratic and syndicalist newspapers. He cultivated connections to the naturalistic movement (including the Friedrichshagener Dichterkreis ) and supported the Volksbühne movement . Landsberger had a close friendship with the actor Josef Kainz . Since 1901 he was married to the actress Lola Rameau .

From 1898 to 1901 Hugo Landsberger published the weekly magazine Das neue Jahrhundert . From 1905 he was part of the editorial team of Reclam's Universum . From 1909 to 1911 he was a member of the board of the Neue Freie Volksbühne . In the twenties he lived in Berlin-Halensee . There is no information about Landsberger's whereabouts after 1935; He was considered missing from 1938 at the latest .
