The Adobe Media Player (abbreviated: AMP ) is a desktop application of Adobe Inc. , whose core function in playback and managing web videos in FLV - and H.264 represents format. These are made available to the user  free of charge via streaming or progressive download from various providers such as Comedy Central , MTV and Nickelodeon . The Adobe Media Player also processes locally saved FLV files.

The technical basis for the cross-platform functionality (version 1.6 runs on Windows and Mac OS X ) of Adobe Media Player is provided by Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR).

As of late 2010, Adobe Media Player is no longer supported by Adobe and can no longer be downloaded from the product website.

Properties for end users

The software is available for download free of charge from the Adobe Systems product page. The Adobe Integrated Runtime required for the installation will be installed automatically, if not available. The application is around two to three megabytes in size when downloaded and can be installed directly in the web browser.

Once installed, the end user can watch TV and web shows. These are offered via so-called shows in several episodes. After the corresponding download, the video content can also be viewed in the offline mode of the program.

Adobe Media Player can also be used to subscribe to podcasts and supports FLV, MP4 (H.264), and SWF video formats .

Content providers also have the option to customize the look of the media player for their show. This is also done via the provider's RSS feed. Various standard image formats ( PNG , JPEG , GIF ) as well as the SWF format from Adobe are available to the provider for the adjustments . This also includes, for example, the display of advertisements.
