Adolf Holzhausen

Adolf Holzhausen the Elder J. (born August 8, 1868 in Vienna ; † June 5, 1931 ibid) was an Austrian publisher and bookseller .

Adolf Holzhausen came as the son of the publisher Adolf Holzhausen the Elder. Ä. (* February 3, 1827 in Braunschweig; † September 30, 1892 in Salzburg, head of the Viennese court and university book printing company).

Adolf junior was trained in the family business (his father had owned the Manzsche book printing company since 1858). Holzhausen learned the typesetting of oriental scripts and also provided the company with oriental letters. Holzhausen later founded the university book printing company and his own publishing house, which mainly published art books and historical works. After 1918 he was promoted to head of the Military Geography Institute . Also after the First World War , he suggested that Austrian school book publishers work together.

Holzhausen was later president of the main association of print shop owners: he sponsored the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
