Adolf Itzenplitz

Karl Adolf Itzenplitz , also Itzenblitz , (* May 1821 in Magdeburg ; † March 24, 1883 in Schöneberg ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Adolf Itzenplitz was born in Magdeburg in 1821. At the age of 15 he began an apprenticeship with the Berlin sculptor Ludwig Wilhelm Wichmann . He stayed there until 1846, received training and supported his teacher in carrying out larger tasks. After a year-long study trip through Germany, he went to Rome in 1847 . There, Franz Woltreck, who was already ill at the time, entrusted him with the completion of several work he had begun. After his death and the siege of the city in 1848, he returned to Berlin and initially occupied himself with portrait busts and decorative work. In addition to his work as a sculptor, Itzenplitz wrote articles for art journals. After the death of his predecessor, the librarian Dähling, he initially took over the temporary management of the position of librarian at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin at the end of 1879. He carried out this office with great zeal and commitment until his death on March 24, 1883. Adolf Itzenplitz was married to the German novelist Marie Giese .
