Marie Sophie Natalie Giese , married Itzenplitz , (* around 1830 in Wulflatzke , Neustettin district ; † November 25, 1914 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Marie Giese was born around 1830 in Wulflatzke, Neustettin district as the daughter of the local preacher Samuel Friedrich Giese and his wife Emilie Holdine Floragunde, nee. Vanselow, born. In the 1860s and 1870s she wrote numerous novellas and stories, most of which were published by the Otto Jahnke publishing house in Berlin. She also worked as a translator of literary works by foreign artists. On May 18, 1874 she approached the German Schiller Foundation for the first time because of “permanent illnesses” that had existed for “several years” with a request for support, which she was awarded with a one-off payment of 150 thalers . After the death of her husband, the sculptor Adolf Itzenplitz , she again turned to the foundation for financial support. Until her death she received permanent support from the German Schiller Foundation.

There were family ties to the professor and director of the Szczecin City High School, Hugo Karl Heinrich Lemcke , who was married to an Antonie Mathilde Wilhelmine Giese (born December 8, 1840 in Wulflatzig, Neustettin district). He informed the Schiller Foundation in a letter dated December 19, 1914 about the writer's death.

Marie Giese cultivated friendly relations with the Berlin painter Antonie Biel , who came from Stralsund, and she provided an illustration for the novel "Eva" for her. Another friend was the composer Gustava Bley from Bergen , who wrote about Marie Giese and Antonie Biel: “Forty-two years ago I spent my birthday in the house of the sculptor Itzenplitz, whose wife was the novelist Marie Giese, my friend. She was friends with the well-known painter Antonie Biel, our Mr. Biel's aunt in Bergen, and the two women worked together on a Rügen album. “It was probably never published. Antonie Biel died in 1880.
