Adolf von Ernst (until 1905 Adolf Ernst, born March 17, 1845 in Berlin , † August 28, 1907 in Meiringen , Switzerland ) was a German engineer and university professor.

Life

Adolf Ernst was born in Berlin as the son of a secret councilor. After passing his school-leaving examination in 1863 and a year and a half of practical work in a machine factory, he attended the Berlin Trade Academy . From 1868, interrupted by a year-long stay in England, he worked as an engineer in Berlin machine works. An injury during the Franco-Prussian War forced him into a sick camp for almost five years. During this time he prepared for the state examination for the subject at higher trade schools in Prussia. After passing his exam in 1876, he got a job at the higher trade school in Halberstadt . In 1884 Ernst was appointed professor at the Technical University of Stuttgart . A year earlier he had published his book Die Hebezeuge , of which later editions appeared.

Ernst worked for many years as a volunteer in the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and its Württemberg district association. In 1893 and 1894 he sat on the board of the VDI.

Ernst had been married since 1876 and had two sons and two daughters.
