Adolph Willem Carel Bentinck van Schoonheten

Adolf Willem Carel Baron Bentinck van Schoonheten (born September 3, 1905 in Ede (Netherlands) , † March 7, 1970 in Paris ) was a Dutch diplomat.

He was the son of Maria Sigrid van Karnebeek and Rudolf Floris Carel-Baron Bentinck van Schoonheten, chamberlain in exceptional service.

On August 31, 1938, he married Gabrielle Wilhelmine Hedwig Marie, Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kaszon. From this marriage a daughter and a son were born.

From 1918 to 1924 he attended the Wolters Institute and the Nederlandsch Lyceum in The Hague . From 1924 to 1930 he studied in Utrecht Law .

Career

From 1931 to 1934 he was employed by the Dutch trading company . In 1934 he joined the Ministry of Finance and was employed in the overseas department. In 1937 he entered the foreign service, where he was appointed legation secretary in 1938 and chargé d' affaires in Budapest in 1939 . From 1940 to 1945 he was chargé d'affaires in Cairo . This was followed by a short stay in the Netherlands.

From 1946 to 1949 he was counselor in London. The Netherlands founded the Dutch-Indonesian Union at this time, and he was in charge of the Western European Union here with the Secretary of the Legation, Joseph Luns .

In 1950 he suffered a heart attack from which he recovered in three years.

From 1951 to 1956 he was envoy in Bern .

From 1956 to 1958 he was Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Council .

From 1958 to 1963 he was ambassador to London .

From 1963 to March 7, 1970 he was ambassador to Paris .
