Adriaen Waterloos

Adriaen Waterloos (born March 8, 1598 in Brussels ; † August 10, 1681 there ) was a Flemish die cutter and medalist .

Life

Adriaen Waterloos, descendant of the die cutter and medalist family Waterloos from the southern Netherlands , son of Sijbrecht Waterloos, ran his workshop in his native Brussels. In 1664 he was appointed general mint master there.

Adriaen Waterloos, one of the most important medalists of the 17th century , created remarkable portrait medals in a meticulous and realistic modeling, such as the medal for Philip IV of Spain , 1631, the medal for Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria , 1647, and the medal with self-portrait, around 1664.
