Adrian Bailie Nottage Palmer, 4th Baron Palmer (born October 8, 1951 ) is a British nobleman who has been a member of the House of Lords as Baron Palmer since 1990 . With the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 , he lost the automatic seat in the House of Lords along with all other Hereditary Peers. However, he was elected as one of the 92 elected Hereditary Peers to remain in the House after the reform.

Life

Palmer was born to Sir Gordon Palmer , the younger son of Cecil Palmer, 2nd Baron Palmer , and his wife Lorna Bailie.

He attended Eton College and worked in the family business, the biscuit manufacturer Huntley & Palmers before it between 1974 and 1977 as a manager at the company Biscuits Belgium was busy. After graduating from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in agriculture in 1979 , he started working as a farmer . In the following years he was involved as a member of the Council of the Historic Houses Association for Scotland from 1980 to 1990 and at the same time from 1981 to 1999 of the Historic Houses Association . He was also the Scottish representative at the European Landowners Organization from 1986 to 1992 and at the same time from 1987 to 1993 a member of the Council of the Federation of Scottish Landowners. He was also secretary of the Royal Caledonian Hunt.

After the death of his uncle Raymond Palmer, 3rd Baron Palmer , he succeeded him in 1990 as Baron Palmer and thus a member of the House of Lords . In 1999 Baron Palmer, who was a member of the Royal Company of Archers between 1990 and 1996 , was elected to one of the so-called Hereditary Peers , based on the House of Lords Act 1999 , representing the hereditary nobility in the House of Lords . In the House of Lords he belongs to the group of non-party peers, the so-called crossbenchers .

In addition, he continued to be involved in the Historic Houses Association for Scotland and was its vice-chair between 1993 and 1994, before he was chairman from 1994 to 1999. He has also been Chairman of the Country Sports Defense Trust since 1994 and President of the British Association of Biofuels (BABFO) since 2001 . Baron Palmer has also served as Secretary of the Scottish Peers Association since 2007.
