Adrian Wells

Adrian Wells (born February 2, 1962 ) is a British clinical psychologist. He graduated from the University of Leeds , Aston University and the University of Pennsylvania . Today he is Professor of Clinical and Developmental Psychopathological Psychology in the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences at the University of Manchester and also lectures at the Technical and Natural Sciences University of Norway . Wells is considered the developer of metacognitive therapy .

Wells has been instrumental in understanding and treating the mechanisms of mental illness, as well as measures to maintain mental health. Wells researches mainly in the area of ​​social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, traumatic reactions (such as post-traumatic stress disorder), obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. Wells focuses particularly on the development of models and treatments for the disorders mentioned in the context of cognitive behavioral therapy and self-developed metacognitive therapy.
