John Kibet Koech (born August 23, 1995 in Kericho ) is a Bahraini obstacle runner of Kenyan origin who has been eligible to compete in Bahrain since 2014.

Athletic career

John Koech competed in his first international competitions at the 2014 Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech , where he finished fifth in 8: 28.96 minutes. The following year he won in 8: 27.03 minutes at the Asian Championships in Wuhan , and thus qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he with 8: 38.62 minutes in advance to retire. At the beginning of October he finished fifth in the Military World Games in Mungyeon, South Korea, in 8: 35.63 minutes. In 2016 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he also failed to qualify for the final with a time of 8: 28.81 min . At the Islamic Solidarity Games 2017 in Baku he finished fourth in 8: 34.27 minutes, as well as at the Asian Games the following year in Jakarta in 8: 32.72 minutes. The following year he won the Asian Championships in Doha in 8: 25.87 minutes and thus received a bye for the World Championships there in October .

In 2013 Koech became the Kenyan master in obstacle course. He is the brother of the Kenyan long distance runner Isiah Kiplangat Koech .
