Isiah Kiplangat Koech (also Isaiah Kiplangat Koech ; born December 19, 1993 in Kericho ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

Koech was the youth world champion in the 3000 meter run in Brixen in 2009 . At the 2010 Cross Country World Championships in Bydgoszcz, he finished fourth in the junior race and won the national championship with the Kenyan team. He gained international attention in February 2011 when he won the 5000 meter race at the PSD Bank indoor meeting in Düsseldorf in front of his compatriot Eliud Kipchoge . The winning time of the only 17-year-old of 12: 53.29 minutes was the fourth fastest time ever run in the hall over this distance. Shortly afterwards he increased the junior indoor world record over 3000 meters in Ghent to 7: 37.50 min. In March he was tenth at the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbría and helped Kenya to defend the team title. At the World Athletics Championships in Daegu , he finished fourth in the 5000 meter run. He finished fifth at the 2012 London Olympics.
