Ali Ahmed al-Amri ( Arabic علي أحمد العمري, DMG ʿAlī Aḥmad al-ʿAmrī ; * December 28, 1987 in Dammam ) is a Saudi obstacle course and long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Ali al-Amri gained his first international experience at the Islamic Solidarity Games 2005 in Mecca , where he finished fifth in the obstacle course. He then came in seventh at the Pan-Arab Championships in Tunis . The following year he won the Asian Junior Championships in Macau in 8: 42.94 minutes and won the silver medal in the 10,000 meter run . He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Beijing , finished tenth in the obstacle course and no longer started over 10,000 meters. He later won the bronze medal at the Pan-Arab Junior Championships in Cairo and was fourth at the Asian Games in Doha in 8: 41.29 minutes. In 2007 he won the Asian Championships in Amman in 8: 40.25 minutes and qualified for the World Championships in Osaka , where he reached the finals, but did not start there. In 2008 he took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing for the first time, but retired there with 9: 09.73 minutes in advance .

Two years later he won the bronze medal at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 8: 30.96 minutes. In 2011 he finished sixth at the Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro and qualified again for the World Championships in Daegu , but did not reach the final with 8: 26.75 minutes. The following year he again took part in the Olympic Games in London and was eliminated again with 8: 26.22 minutes in the lead . At the Asian Games in Incheon he finished sixth in 9: 04.87 min and eighth at the 2017 Arab Championships in Radès . In 2018 he reached seventh place at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 8: 38.29 minutes. The following year he finished eighth at the World Military Games in Wuhan in 8: 45.04 minutes.

In 2006, al-Amri became the Saudi Arabian champion in the 5000-meter run .
