life and work

After short study phases - first architecture, then at the Zurich Conservatory - Adriano worked for more than 20 years as a clerk at banks and insurance companies. He also founded his own record label in the 1970s, with which he campaigned for Respighi's chamber music and also for film music . He was largely responsible for the publication and recording of Arthur Honegger's film music on four CDs. In 1979 he organized an exhibition on Ottorino Respighi for the Lucerne Festival . He also worked as a stage and film composer. In the 1980s, Adriano stepped in as a prompter at the Zurich Opera House and worked there as a permanent employee from 1991 until his retirement in 2009 as a “Maestro suggeritore” (conducting prompter).

As a conductor, Adriano, who received suggestions from Ernest Ansermet and Joseph Keilberth , is largely self-taught. In 1987 he got his first engagement as a conductor for the Marco Polo label, which was followed by 49 CD recordings with ensembles such as the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra , especially for the Marco Polo and Naxos and Sterling labels . Adriano's discography includes film music by Georges Auric , Arthur Honegger, Erik Nordgren , Arthur Bliss and others as well as his own compositions. In addition to Respighi's work, there is a special focus on unknown works by Swiss composers or composers living in Switzerland, such as Fritz Brun , Hermann Suter , Pierre Maurice , Émile Jaques-Dalcroze and George Templeton Strong .
