Advanced Combat Knife

Successor version of the bayonet known by the Spanish military as KCB-77 M1 / KH-JS.

The Advanced Combat Knife (ACK) was the prototype of a combat knife for the German armed forces , which was later introduced to the Dutch army as the B 2000 .

prehistory

Combat knife, heavy ( Kalashnikov bayonet )

There was a bayonet for the German Army’s HK G3 assault rifle , but it was never introduced. After German reunification , the Bundeswehr “inherited” a large number of new bayonets for the MPi-K and MPi AK74 of the NVA . These were taken over from 1993 as an interim combat knife, heavily in the Bundeswehr. The diameter of the barrel ring of the former NVA bayonets is too small for the flash hider of the HK G36 assault rifle , so that the combat knife could not be used as a bayonet. Only a few soldiers modified AKM Type II bayonets in limited numbers around 1997 on a private initiative (new, compatible retaining ring and belt holder) and made them usable for the G36.

description

The knife came from the Solingen company Eickhorn and took over the pike blade shape as well as the back saw and the wire cutter functionality from the combat knife, heavy . The blade was a little longer compared to the combat knife, heavy , which made the ACK look slimmer.

The asymmetrical handle of the ACK consisted of a single block of plastic. This was colored olive green and ergonomically shaped. The crossguard is reinforced by a steel insert and provided with a bottle opener, which can also serve as a stripper. The handle is hollow and closed with a slotted screw. It can be used as a repository.

For use as a wire cutter, the ACK had a blade opening into which the corresponding counterpart on the sheath was inserted to form the wire cutters together.

The back of the blade was sharpened on one side (right side) and was heavy with the fine-toothed saw of the combat knife .

The sheath was a new development made of plastic. On locket with a carbine a detachable coupling loop of harness was attached. A diamond grindstone was incorporated into the lip . The chape is attached and covers the counterpart of the wire cutter and a screwdriver .

commitment

The ACK failed in the troop attempt and was therefore not included in the armament of the Bundeswehr. The KM 2000 was later purchased in its place .

The Eickhorn ACK will continue to be manufactured as an outdoor knife for the civil market.
