Lists on the subject

The KM 2000 is the current combat knife of the Bundeswehr .

History and technology

In 2001 the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement (BWB) put out a new combat knife to replace the field knife introduced in 1968. The company Eickhorn-Solingen Ltd. was awarded the contract for production . The knife, which consists of only two components, is manufactured in accordance with NATO quality guidelines.

The approximately 172 mm long Tantoklinge consists of 440A ( material number 1.4110) stainless steel and has a continuous back thickness of about 5 mm and a partial serrated edge on the rear half. Since 2008 there has also been a version with a spear point blade (KM 3000).

Disc breaker on the underside of the KM 2000

The handle is symmetrically shaped so that the knife can be used by left and right-handed people. The handle is made of glass fiber reinforced PA6 ( GRP ) and has a ribbed thumb rest on the front. The tang emerges from the end of the handle to act as a disc breaker. It is not possible to use it as a wire cutter (in conjunction with the scabbard). The weight of the knife is around 320 g with a total length of around 305 mm.

There is a variant (from pre-series production with small numbers) with a handle similar to that of the Advanced Combat Knife (ACK).

The holder consists of two parts, the scabbard and the carrying element, whereby the scabbard, like the handle, is made of GRP. It has a spring inside that prevents the knife from falling out. A sharpening pad is glued to the outside of the scabbard. The carrying element is used to attach the scabbard and knife to the combat vest or belt and is made from Cordura fabric. The scabbard and carrying element are connected to one another by a press stud and a Velcro fastener and weigh 525 g with a knife.
