The Omar Ibn Al-Jattab Mosque is an Islamic prayer house in Maicao , in the Colombian department of La Guajira . It is known simply as La Mezquita , (the mosque), as it is the only one in the region.

There are traces in the city of Maicao that indicate a wave of immigrants from the Middle East between 1960 and 1970 who settled here. The mosque with a 31 meter high minaret was inaugurated on September 17, 1997 and is the third largest mosque in South America after the Islamic Cultural Center King Fahd in Buenos Aires and the Ibrahim Al-Ibrahim mosque in Caracas . It is named after Umar ibn al-Chattab , the second caliph of Islam . It was built by the Iranian architect Alí Namazi . It can accommodate over 1,000 believers.
