Advantest ( Japanese 株式会社 ア ド バ ン テ ス ト Kabushiki-gaisha Adobantesuto , English Advantest Corporation ) is a listed Japanese manufacturer of so-called automatic test equipment . This includes test equipment and systems that are required in the semiconductor industry to test the functionality of the manufactured products while they are still in production. The company's shares are part of the Japanese Nikkei 225 stock index .

Advantest was founded under the company Takeda riken kōgyō kabushiki-gaisha ( タ ケ ダ 理 研 工業 株式会社 English Takeda Riken Industries ) by Ikuo Takeda in 1954 in Itabashi . The company's shares have been traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since 1983. It was not until 1985 that the company's name was changed to Advantest. In July 2011, Advantest took over the competitor Verigy .
