Aegis submitted an application, but this was rejected by a competitor, also from England . Departments

  • Aegis Research and Intelligence
  • Aegis Technical Services
  • Aegis Security Operations
  • Aegis Foundation is an Aegis-established foundation that has been operating in Iraq (since 2004) and Afghanistan (since 2005). She also supports the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).

Areas of application

Iraq

In Iraq, Aegis signed a $ 293 million contract with the United States Department of Defense in May 2004 . This contract ran for three years. During this time, the Project and Contracting Office (PCO) should be provided with various services. The following services were included in this contract:

  • Development of security solutions, mobile and static, for the PCO, such as the United States Army Corps of Engineers
  • Facilitating the exchange of information between the security forces and the reconstruction workers
  • Providing information on the feasibility of road operations across the country. This means that Aegis took over the coordination and administration for the more than fifty private security and military companies operating in Iraq for three years. In September 2007, the DoD and Aegis signed a follow-up contract for two additional years (until 2009) and valued at $ 475 million.

Aegis fulfilled a few other security missions for the UN Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD) and the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq (IECI) to protect the referendum of October 15 and December 15, 2005 ( parliamentary elections ). Aegis is also providing security personnel while investigating an alleged bribery case in the oil-for-food program .

Aegis makes 80% of its sales in Iraq, with the remaining 20% mostly made in Afghanistan. An estimated 20,000 mercenaries are mainly active in Iraq and Afghanistan, particularly in the service of the US Department of Defense.

Aegis is also active in Libya in 2011 and takes on at least security tasks. As a report by the Swiss dispatch agency quoted Federal Councilor Micheline Calmy-Rey, Aegis was chosen to guard the Swiss embassy in Tripoli after the Libyan war. The reason for this is that Aegis was already "active" in Libya.

Scandalous videos

On October 27, 2005, a number of videos were posted on the Internet that show an employee of a private military service provider shooting at vehicles that do not pose any specific danger. The video shows a rear gunner at work. Because when PMC convoys in particular are on the move, the last vehicle usually has the rear gunner and a warning on the vehicle. Most of the time, it says in English and Arabic: Warning, stay 100 meters back or you will be shot at . Since the fear of suicide bombers is very great, vehicles that are too close are shot at immediately.

The videos were unofficially linked to the Aegis Defense Services website. Both the US Army and Aegis initiated investigations, but both investigative reports remained unpublished.

On April 6, 2006, the More4 News reporter Nima Elbagir identified former Aegis employee Rod Stoner as the one who put the videos online. Aegis did not want to confirm that its employees were involved in the events shown in the video. But through an injunction from the Supreme Court, Stoner's website was closed. In the same More4 program consisted Labor Party -Abgeordnete Jeremy Corbyn that the contract the Pentagon should be repealed with Aegis, has been fully investigated until the matter.

Acquisitions

On October 28, 2005, Aegis acquired Rubicon International Services Ltd , a long-standing provider of various security services. This became publicly known only on November 4th of the same year. Rubicon General Manager John Davidson joined Aegis and became Director of Operations.

Head office

In August 2010 it was announced that Aegis had founded a holding company in Basel (Switzerland) in order to relocate the company headquarters there. The operations coordination center remained at the previous location. The holding was dissolved again by resolution of the General Assembly on April 15, 2014.
