The Aermacchi Cigno (also Aermacchi 125 Modelo N ) is a motor scooter that the Italian company Aeronautica Macchi produced from 1951 to 1953. "Cigno" means " swan " in German .

history

The Cigno was the manufacturer's first motorized two-wheeler and was introduced in 1951. The large wheel scooter was designed by Lino Tonti . From 1952, this first version was accompanied by the sportier Monsone , but equipped with the same engine, and the similarly constructed two-cylinder model Bicilindrica .

In 1953 the Cigno was replaced by the similarly constructed Ghibli .

technology

Engine and drive

The Cigno has an air-cooled single - cylinder two-stroke engine with an almost horizontal cylinder. On the left stump of the double-bearing crankshaft there is a multi-disc dry clutch via which the engine power is transmitted to a straight-toothed three-speed gearbox. The transmission is connected to the rear wheel by a machine chain.

The petrol / oil mixture 1:17 is fed to the engine via a round slide carburetor with a 17 mm passage from the tank under the saddle. The ignition spark comes from an ignition light magnet .

Frame and chassis

The Cigno has a pressed steel frame. Both wheels sit in sprung arms with friction shock absorbers. The engine and transmission are also attached to the front of the rear swing arm. The frame and fenders are always painted beige.

Wheels and brakes

The 17 ″ wheels are wire-spoke wheels and have half-hub drum brakes . The rear brake is operated via a foot lever on the left side of the engine and a linkage, the front with a cable from the handlebars.
