Aerojet was an American manufacturer of rocket engines . In addition to its headquarters in Sacramento , California , the company was represented at numerous locations in the USA. In 2013, Aerojet was merged by the parent company GenCorp with the former Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne to form Aerojet Rocketdyne .

history

After it was founded on March 19, 1942 in Azusa , California , Aerojet initially developed launch rockets for military aircraft. Based on the sounding rocket Aerobee , the company contributed to the development of the ICBMs Minuteman , Titan and Peacekeeper as well as the submarine-based Polaris .

Civilian projects included the development of the propulsion system for the Apollo spacecraft and the control rockets for the space shuttle . Another business area arose with the production of uranium and intelligent ammunition .
