Beginnings

In 1941, Cliff Eros (real name Julius Jäger , * 1889, married to Babette Belli from the Belli Circus since 1940), a well-known sensation artist and predator teacher, founded his first circus with his partner Stenglein, the Silesian Streamline Circus, which was named after that of Cliff Eros self-constructed streamlined car. In 1944 the winter quarters in Strehlen (Silesia) were confiscated by the Wehrmacht. Eros then played in Görlitz (Varieté Zwei Linden ). On December 7, 1945, Cliff Eros opened his self-constructed wooden circus building on the site of the Krystallpalast, which was destroyed in the Second World War in Leipzig, which offered space for 2,000 spectators and had a dome diameter of 20 m.

criticism

Circus Eros 2015 in Göttingen

Like other circuses, Eros has been under increasing pressure since around 2010 due to animal husbandry. On January 5, 2014, there were assaults by the employees of the Eros circus on the demonstrators of the association die tierbefreier eV at a rally in Leipzig, which was increasingly reported in the local media. A guest performance in Göttingen in October 2015 was also criticized; The reason for this was the keeping conditions for the animals in a storage area, next to which a rifle club held target practice at the same time.
