history

In April 2012, Alexander Paul Blake of Eden Weint Im Grab published his solo debut The Return to the Golden Age . He recorded and produced the album completely on his own. After publication, he renamed the project Aethernaeum and added more musicians to the line-up. In April 2013 the second album was released, Walks through the Daemmerwald , which got full points in magazines like Legacy , Metalglory , Metal Temple or Sheol and 8 out of 10 points in Rock Hard . The next album, "Naturmystik", was released in October 2015. In addition, the band presented an elaborate video clip for the song Heimreise (Ein Requiem) filmed by Rainer ZIPP Fränz (Dimmu Borgir, Faun, Leaves' Eyes, Atrocity etc. ) .

style

The band plays nature-mystical , folkloric extreme metal . The music of Aethernaeum combines elements of classic Black Metal , such as openly played guitars, fast-paced drums or nagging vocals, with folkloric elements and spherical ambient parts, which give the music a lot of space and atmosphere. The compositions are often very expansive and dispense with a common verse-chorus scheme. In the reviews bands like Agalloch , In the Woods… , Wolves in the Throne Room , Dornenreich or Burzum were often mentioned as comparisons.

According to Blake, the band name combines the words ether and Athenaeum (name of a magazine from the romantic era ) and is intended to express aspects such as closeness to nature, spirituality and the idealistic closeness to romanticism, what Aethernaeum distinguishes from traditional black metal bands, their texts on satanic and inhumane topics circles, distinguishes.
