Eden Weint Im Grab ( EwiG or EwiG for short ) is a German dark metal band that was founded under the name Dark Pride Retaliation . The music combines elements of Gothic Metal and Black Metal . The band members formed the nature-mystical black metal-inspired extreme metal group Aethernaeum with an almost identical line-up .
history
The band started as a side project called Dark Pride Retaliation. In 2002 a demo was recorded, but due to only four existing tracks it was not of particularly good quality and was therefore quickly discarded. It was not until 2004 that the project was brought out of the blue again, this time under the new and current name of Eden Weint Im Grab .
In the same year, the first album, Traumtrophies Toter Traumtänzer , was released. However, it was not sold in stores, but was offered for download free of charge including artwork - "in order to achieve the widest possible publicity and not get lost in the mass of publications as a newcomer".
Two contributions by the band followed on different samplers , until a free EP was released in 2008 , which contained both a foretaste of the new album and completely new titles. The second album Trauermarsch nach Neotopia was then released with label support from Avasonic / Omniamedia. The poetic German texts revolve around the subject of transience . In an interview with Legacy magazine, Alexander Paul Blake reveals: “I see life and death only as part of a much larger reality and ironize the limited thinking of many people in the texts by paying so much attention to the cold, narrow and wet grave. Actually, however, I only want to say that the soul knows no grave and I see death as a gateway to a new state of consciousness ”.
Eden Weint Im Grab started as a pure studio project by Alexander Paul Blake, who recorded and produced the albums in his own studio. After the release of the second album, this permanent musician got on board in order to be able to play live performances from now on.
In November 2009 the third album, Der Herbst des Einsamen , was released, which marked a clear stylistic break from its predecessors and incorporated elements from soundtracks, ambient and radio plays. It is based on poems by the Austrian expressionist Georg Trakl , which Alexander Paul Blake interpreted in a very dark way. This release was only an interlude and not a final turn away from metal. In 2011 the concept album Geysterstunde I followed , which was dedicated to topics such as ghost apparitions , the paranormal and the supernatural. In contrast to its predecessor, the band is concentrating again on typical metal pieces, but expanding them with the sounds of the fair, waltz and tango influences as well as radio play elements. The song Tango Mortis is a duet with Jan Lubitzki, the former singer of the group Depressive Age , and a bizarre video was made about morality of the organ grinder . In autumn 2012 Eden Weint Im Grab released the album Nachtidyll - An acoustic interlude , on which nine old and two new pieces can be found in acoustic versions, and also played a few unplugged shows.
In 2014 the album "Geysterstunde II - Ein Jenseitiges Kuriositätenkabinett" was released, which, like the first part, contains stories about worlds of the hereafter, spook and spiritism. In addition, Sascha Blach published the book "Geystergeschichten" with short stories about Eden-Weint-Im-Grab-Songs and for the tenth anniversary the debut album "Traumtrophorien toter Trauertänzer" was reissued, remastered and given bonus tracks. For the album there was a video clip for the song "Jenseitsflugmaschine" and then the band went on tour with Nachtblut. In 2015, Lord of the Lost released an Eden-Weint-Im-Grab version of the title track on their EP "Full Metal Whore" under the title "Gespensterhure". This was re-recorded by Alexander Paul Blake and provided with new German text and his singing.
In 2017 the concept album "Na (c) htodreise" was released, the songs of which describe a journey through the afterlife and the underworld, similar to the Divine Comedy by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri . "The making of Na (c) htodreise" was documented on YouTube in several parts produced by the band . To "Na (c) htodreise" also a crowdfunding project financed was the silhouette produced "In the dead-tavern" held style video for the song. This was followed by a small tour and appearances at the M'era Luna Festival and the WGT .
In 2019 "tragic comedies from the murder archive", a concept album on the subject of murder, was published. The songs deal with fictional stories from their own as well as those of others, such as Edgar Allan Poe's " The Double Murder on Rue Morgue " (in the song "Der Meysterdetektiv"), as well as historical cases such as Jack the Ripper ("The Phantom of Whitechapel"), William Palmer ("Der Poisonmischer (In the Chamber of Horrors)") and Martin Dumollard ( Martin Dumollard , in the bonus track "The Werewolf of the Bresse"). "Menschenfeuer" deals with the suicide of the lawyer and activist David Buckel ( David Buckel ) in 2018. A video was released for "Last Dawn", which was produced by the band itself for the first time after the long-term collaboration with Rainer "Zipp" Fränen . Since the beginning of 2020 the band has been on tour through Germany together with Wisborg .
