Aezkoa (also Aezkoa Valley ) is an administrative unit in the Navarre region , Spain . Aezkoa has 1200 inhabitants , but only 800 of them live in Aezkoa all year round.

history

It is known that before the establishment of the Kingdom of Navarre in the 9th century, there was already a parish in the valley , not far from the Battle of Roncesvalles .

Aezkoa took part in the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212. King Sancho the Wise corrected the map of the valley in 1229. In 1443 Aezkoa had control of the mountain passages . In 1462 all residents of the valley had rights .

In 1525, shortly after the conclusion of the Reconquista , nine people were burned at the stake and others died in prison . In 1575, six women were from the valley in Logroño for witchcraft accused four of them died from torture .

In 1774, the valley, along with the other regions of northern Navarre, suffered a terrible epidemic that killed all of their cattle . The war against France from 1793 to 1795 caused great destruction in the valley.
