The former, privately run Afghan Museum in Hamburg was opened in the historic Speicherstadt in 1998 and closed on December 23, 2011.

In addition to many exhibits about Afghanistan , traditional Afghan handicrafts were demonstrated, as well as replicas of Afghan monuments, such as the destroyed Buddha of Bamiyan or the fortress of Bost . An oriental seating area with tea and salty biscuits for visitors rounded off the exhibition. On some days there were special events.

The museum was located in the old storage block L (Am Sandtorkai 32) on the first floor (first floor), directly below the spice museum .
