Aficionado ( afiθjoˈnaðo ) means lover or fan . The word often refers to areas with a Spanish or Latin American background, such as cigars , tango or bullfighting .

Aficionado as a cigar lover

Spain was the first European nation to manufacture cigars after the discovery of America . Because of this tradition and the fact that Spanish is spoken in the tobacco-growing areas of Central America , many Spanish words are found in the field of cigars.

The Cigar Aficionado was a leading cigar magazine in the United States that has transformed into a men's lifestyle magazine in recent years .

Aficionado as a bullfighting lover

When it comes to bullfighting , Spain is at the forefront. A particularly famous bullfighting aficionado was Ernest Hemingway , who himself used the term several times in his book Fiesta (1927).
