The Afrika-Bulletin is a Swiss magazine that was founded in 1976 by the Africa Committee , a Basel human rights organization, and “has a long anti-colonial tradition”.
The Africa Committee was established in 1973 “as a reaction to official Switzerland, which the then colonial power Portugal had invited as a guest of honor at the Comptoir Suisse in Lausanne ”. The Africa Bulletin "first focused on the liberation movements in Angola and Mozambique , and later on those in South Africa and Zimbabwe ". Its main aim was to "support the oppressed peoples of Africa in their struggle for political and economic independence".
"Consistently in solidarity with the movements in southern Africa , which sought to free themselves from the colonial and imperialist powers, the Africa Bulletin is an important vote against the official tenor of Switzerland ."
It has been published in cooperation with the Center for African Studies at the University of Basel since 2010 .
