Agesilaus I.
Agesilaos I. ( Greek Ἀγησίλαος Agēsílaos , Ionic Ἡγησίλεως Hēgēsíleōs ) is in Greek mythology the son of Doryssus and the sixth king of Sparta from the house of the Agiads . During his reign, Lycurgus , the famous legislator, wrote the Spartan laws.
After the death of his father, he ascended the throne and is said to have reigned only briefly after Pausanias , but the Excerpta Latina Barbari ascribes 30 and Hieronymus even 44 years of reign to him. Hieronymus names his son Archelaus as his successor .
